Khanani weds in Canaan: promise of love in the promised land

On the 7th of November 2009 in the land of Khumundu khumundu
otherwise known as Ingoho land, a tall dark handsome man got married
to an equally tall dark beautiful lady. I was privileged to see this
up close and candid and I bring you the story.
I take this early opportunity to thank Goddrick Khanani
and Edwin Okiah.. paparazzo of a kind.
Ladies and gentlemen I bring you

Josphat Cathelet Egesa Khanani and Phylis Ruth Nasirumbi
as they did their wedding in Mbale, Western.

PRENUPTIAL ARRANGEMENTS....

In a land that flows with cool waters and green carpet of beauty....

In a land where the background obscures the actual picture....

A land full of maize, great vegetation and lovely people...

A breath taking black beauty was loved by
an equally breathtaking young man

In his excitement, the young man told his family
to get ready and look sharp so that they could take him
to a beautiful place to get a beautiful wife.

And true to form, they came as a huge delegation and in great pomp

And presented themselves to their in-laws...

Oh.. we've come from far far away to come get your daughter....

We have brought you beautiful flowers as gifts,

And we will ensure your daughter carries
loads and loads of scintillating paper jewelery.

The in-laws were not convinced so they said
"Acheni mchezo.. hebu bring REAL DOWRY"

Boy oh Boy..., wasn't my man shocked
As that was all he had...

But bless his heart, he has great mothers
who have been there before.
They had brought real dowry and gifts,

They displayed their brilliance in welcoming a daughter in law to be.
This impressed the in-laws and the wedding was granted.

THE D-DAY
Meet the boys tasked to escort the groom

And the heavy weights...

A pentagonal team of Omundu strong...

The man himself, trying to catch a glimpse of the lady,
As she walks out of her mother's house...

He gives a lovely smile to the paparazzi to shoo them away

Before he goes back to trying to see the lady once again.

BREATHTAKING MOMENTS
Welcome to the action ring/venue

Dance dance flicks all around was the theme around here

Here the royal guest goes back to the dais
after inspecting the guard of honor

Then the good parts began...
the gent carries the flowers delicately,

To a beauty patiently waiting on the far end

On getting there, he surrenders the flowers,
hugs he, kisses her and leads her on
Wait... did they really do all that???
You be the judge, what does this picture tell you?

He however, hooks the lady on his arm..

And as he approaches the dais,
the next gent goes for the same duel
only with a different beauty...

Who is waiting patiently at the entrance...

Over and over the process was repeated

Then came the moment all were waiting for
The bride stepped out beautifuly
accompanied her her parents.

On the front was this flower girl
who was a flower herself...

The brides arrival caused a stir and
caught everyone's attention.
Notice how they tilt their heads to see her well

A moment that was worth
a standing ovation by all present.

I am sure that these vision 2030's started dreaming
About their weddings immediately.

The lovely lady was escorted to the royal dais

Where her man was patiently waiting

And his parents were there with him too...

And when she arrived....

Confirmations had to be done if she really was the one

She was sooooo breathtakingly beautiful
That Khanani's breath flew away for some moments

The lady had to assure him she still was the one ..
thinking his silence meant he couldn't recognize her...

And when the shock was over...

It was time to make give her the jewelery

And make her his forever...

Phylis did the honours too
but looked at him straight in the eye
as she made him her promise

The newly weds then went
to the dais to make it legal....

Notice how the lady is keen
to ensure the signature is real...

The she does her legal impression...

And though the man may sleep on the job,
Phylis is totally awake

Watching as all sign her first joint legal document.

I have attended many weddings and witnessed many
works of human joinery. But allow me to be biased
for once. This was my best wedding so far.
It was so full of life, music laughter and tangible joy.
What is more amazing was the sparkling life that
one Titus Kimanthi put on as he wedded his
sweetheart Karen Ndunge.
I want to make a deal with you. If you come across a
photo where Titus is not smiling, call me up, point it out
and I promise I will buy you coffee at your place of choice!!!
I am not kidding

Let,s go to Karen to meet Karen,
Prince.

Of fame and fireworks
NPC Karen was where the action was.
Karen caring grounds cared for Karen's
raring future.

Oh boy, it was total fireworks around here

As our tantalizing bride, Karen stepped out in style

On the other hand, an overly overjoyed
Titus Kimanthi was all smiles for the day

Luckily for him, One Isaack Kyalo was there
to steady him and keep him focused on the
issue at hand...

And Mrs. Elizabeth Kyalo was on the other hand
graciously leading Karen down the last
embers of spinsterhood.

We know that Music fills the royal halls and
here it was no exception.

She may not be a ballet dancer, but her

Broad smile was the hallmark and epitome
of joy as Titus finally got the go ahead to

a heart throb stand up comedian, brilliant writer or a
most sought after conference speaker.!! Always full of life,
vivacious and excellent friend, Nelly Wangui doesn't hit you like
a tough hot shot city commercial lawyer. But apart from the fact
that she is an excellent person, she is also an upcoming great lawyer

Anyhow, one early Saturday on September, Julius Gitau became
the enviable man as he walked this brilliant, sharp and beautifully
endowed girl down the isle.

Welcome to the leafy green serene view of Nakuru.
Famous traveller Known as Thompson is said to have
rested some where near here to catch a breather but he
caught a cold in the famous Thompson falls. Julius braved
all the freezing temperatures to pursue the love of his life!!

And yes here is the tantalizing beauty that made the man
from Murang'a walk across the ridges and brave the frosts!!

But before she looked like a heaven
sent and packed angel on loan she went through
a process...

Meet the OD (Operations director) in charge of

Countryside Quality Quotient: Leona and Erick's wedding

On the 16th of August 2008 right deep in the heartlands of the beautiful lush green plains of the great Rift Valley, a beautiful Kalenjin girl who brags of carrying an auditing tag on her name tag married an excellent doctor.
This is a story that brings out the best of shots from the countryside which bring exhilaration owing to the fact that they were taken as two people celebrated love. I was not able to attend the wedding but I had brilliant representatives who brought me the photos and the stories and now I bring to you The Countryside Qoutient: The love story of Leona and Erick.

I take this early opportunity to give due honour to Mosich and Ben Too who played a vital role in bring this story to life.

Welcome to the opportune of viewing amazing sceneries
as you journey into the heartland of the
Rift within a valley. Some places are so raw that...

Only the tough can conqure it. Pray do these goats wear
green goggles to get an illusion so as to eat
or do they simply eat rocks as junk food?

Only the tough, expert and experienced drivers...

Driving the heavyduty stuff can conquer this terrain

but you dont endure dryness for long coz further up
A whole new world opens up

Green glory against a back drop of brilliant blue
acts as a homing device for your wandering eyes

Adventure in beautyland
It's this glorious place that these explorers had gone to discover

To see the places where Dr. Erick Chepkwony

Used to take Ms Leona Chepkorir for date, picknicks
and also get flowers for a date in the wild

The doctor later introduced his heart throbe to this man...

Who proposed that they meet in this sanctuary for a formal interrogation

A group of Kalenjin warrios were supposed to be present

Although they would be accompanied by these beautiful maidens
to pacify them if they got in a warring mood

My crew were unable to get privy details of what transpired
inside tese great sanctuary. However they are very sure of
some things for instance...

These two went in single andcame up with a merger agreement

They were adviced to walk with like minded friends

Our sources also reveal that they were asked to give their parents
as many grandchildren as possible

They were told that marriage is not a bed of roses

And that view point is very important. Never give a half face
to your problems. Face them fully they were told

Another thing they were cautioned is that family life is not a competition

They were also to cater and provide well for their children

They seem to have listened well to the advice

Coz our paps later caught up with them feeding each other

Ok I would like his number so that he can give me
the number of the optician who prescribed him those
goggles. You know I wear specks and I would not mind goggles either
So anyone with the number??

Seriously, someone asking the recipe for the cake from the bride on
such a day as this is not very encouraging..

No wonder the bodyguards had to look for all manner of "weapons"
to keep him away from the scene...

Hunting tips
Kama nilivyosema in other postings, there is
hope and opportunities for the singles who
attend weddings. So how do you utilize these
opportunities??

Ensure you carry with you a brilliant amazing and charming smile
(Of course if you are heavy coloured like my friend and brother
here) it makes you also a bit visible

Please ensure she knows how you will furnish the appartment
or home you will go to live in...

You should also show how much wealth
you have in terms of sheep and goats...
But do it from a distance otherwise she will know that
these are nothing but white painted stones!!!!!

A surer way is to try and point her towards where you have....

but please ensure that you hadn't shown the same car to
someone else coz you will find her there admiring it and this

A cute cacophony of cross cultural crush: Peter and Christine

The day finally came. One that had faced myriads of gargantuan challenges. On this particular day, right in the smack middle of a police station, DOD and a theological college, a thoroughly subdued Peter Ndung'u took a vow to cherish and protect one Christine Afandi.

Here is the Story of a normally energetic boy, with boisterous laughter and amazing drive who was utterly humbled and seemingly harmless on his wedding day. Was he spell bound by the scintilating beauty of his lifetime partner? Maybe. Or he was just overwhelmed that his mother-in-law was around to see him do some things or possibly he was surprised that he was actually getting married. Whatever the case may be, we captured the motion and I now bring you the story Cute Cacophony of Cross Cultural Crush.
In the story, I include some Never seen before Photo shoots and we also speculate on where the couple went for the honey moon.

PRELUDES...

Welcome to the Nairobi International School of Theology.
On any give Sunday, Peter and Christine come to meet their fellow sheep
for a service within here. But on this day the two were here to be
given the go ahead to go home together.

Let's start from the very beggining. As you can see,
it was an Up Hill... sorry an Up stairs Task to bring the
bride down

Nonetheless, after some time,
the early fruits were spotted

Followed by the First Fruits

And finally, the Mother lode Came through

HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!!! Did you pay all the dowry??
Meet the Afandi's Afande.... (do you get my drift?)
Afandi is the family name and
Afande the police street slang name.

I guess she was promised a lift in one of these cars and she backed down!!

THE PROCESS
Meet the miniature representative of the
Secret Service Agents (read ushers) who
were teeming in this place.

Wow and didn't they arrest many suspects whose
'criminal charges' were
going to a wedding suspiciously

OK. Meet a thoroughly subdued, humbled, quietened man
Peter Ndung'u is his name. See the way his lips are
hard pressed together

Meet the one who was the cause of the"terror" on Peter's face
Ms Christine Afandi

Meet the Chief Justice (One with a red 'holy' glow)
who was determining the case. On his side
(Orbed in a blue glow) is his highly trusted and very
well able High Court Registrar whose task was
to rephrase the Court Martial Language into a dialect
that's understandable to the common Mwananchi

Our lay down hero was walked down the isle
by his more experienced partner and friend

The gentleman's army was watching from a distance
and when the saw him gather courage to walk down..

They took a cue and followed suit.

From the other side the amazingly bright and beautiful
royalties were modeling before they entered the
catwalk (read sanctuary)

When the court bailiff gave the order:
Silence: Court in Session

The carpet was rolled out

And the one accused of love
came escorted heavily by her parents

First the people held a mini-demonstration to 'protest' against
the goodness of the Lord. (Read Praise and Worship)

Then Peter was asked to certify whether this was the
culprit that had assaulted his heart.

The evidence was overwhelming as even the object
that had caused him physical malformation (wedding ring)
was produced in the courtroom.

As such, judgment was delivered and signed.
Life imprisonment in Love Jail.

The agony is clearly visible on the faces

I caught up with the Court clerk consulting the
government spokesman (read MC) about some
protocol issues. These included

she will bear that burden. She gladly did

Weddings provide perfect spot for getting your life partner
Allow me to give you some necessary tips to ensure you
snag one.

Well, you can get a search committee and explain to them
in detail the kind of a partner you are looking for. They will then
marshal their eye muscles and help you search.

Alternatively, you can choose to stand at a strategic point in display

If she's out there, she will do a jig to catch your eye

She may even show you that she has a kid to see if
you are still interested.

If you aren't her type, she will look away in search

Murang'a Musings: Njoro and Njeri's wedding

It's a clear Saturday 9th August the Year 2002.

We are cruising at slightly above 120 Km/hr

and Pastor Rukenya is our Chauffer for the day.

A few hours later, we are winding the red soiled paths of Murang'a.
It's here we will be witnessing the act of "joinery" between two
well fitting hearts 'n' souls.

As the thinned clouds danced across the blue sky, as the wind
waltzed with the leafy trees of Murang'as suburbia, as the sun
displayed its magnificent smile to the plains, valleys and rivers
of this part of central province, two hearts were also dancing to
a completely different tune. Two young people were responding
to a different kind of beat.

I bring you the story: THE HEART BEAT OF LOVE
Starring: Jane Njoroge & Samuel Njeri

PRELUDES

Welcome to the beautiful blue skyline painted against
the green foreground on a part of God's breathtaking canvas
known as THE EARTH. This part of painting is called Murang'a

As you can see, Love was clearly in the air... eeh
wait.... love was clearly on the ground.

And the writing on the wall was enough
proof as to who the culprits of Love were.

Meet the first culprit. Name is Sam otherwise known as Njoro.

He decided to walk out of the door of singleness

He further decided to crucify his bachelorhood on the
CROSS of marriage

Effectively then, he went ahead and plucked the red flower
from the myriads of leaves around it

And yes you guessed right, this is the flower he picked

THE ENTRY...

Welcome to the empty full Gospel Church
But before you wonder why it's empty....

Meet the ones who were "annoying" people into the church

(Ooops OK let me explain:.... You see, in Kyuk, the word Usher
has an equivalent that's written as Asha which means NO.
Now if you say that in present continous tense, then NO becomes
'NOING' which is close to annoying.)

The short of the "wrong" story is that the two were ushering.

And sure enough, they did "annoy" enough witnesses
into the Church Hall.

It was the time for THE MAN accompanied by his
personal Bodyguard to make a dramatic entry

His squadron of 'black clad Ops/worriors' was
also in the vicinity.

And so too was the recruits of the young calvary.

Across the ridge, the princess' royal brigade
had warmed enough and was doing a fully charged
grand march to the battle station

And there were enough flowers in the barracks' vase

The other Star also made a dramatic entry
under heavy parental escort

First, she inspected the Guard of Honor mounted by
Her Royal Army

From afar the two key chaplains were closely watching
the proceedings.

THE PROCESS...

We wasted no time so they put a signet of
ownership on each other,

They ratified the accord by appending their imprints on it

They deposited the Marriage Cheque into a safe depository

Ooh, it's such a sweet thing...

To be able to finally unveil your own investiment

And to be given the go ahead and ...

"Drink from your own Cistern"

Later in the day when everyone else leaves.

I caught up with the Government Spokesman (left) and
the State House Publicist(right)
There were going over some issues so as to ensure they would
be reading from the same script.

The Government Spokesman then went
ahead to clarify the government's strategy
on the food queuing process

How did you miss?

When there was enough firewood to cook

When there were enough Food Sufurias

Enough drinks to accompany the food

And ample ways of downloading the
food from your plate to your stomach.

How could you miss when there was enough transport?
From the sophisticated...

To the shaky one...

Basically, the game entails trying to see who

There are many things to look out and up for
in a wedding ceremony

For instance, why does anyone put a
NO WAY THRU signpost in a place where
vegetation has effectively ensured that there is
NO WAY in the first place?
Aww and don't mind the English to start with

On another thing, why does someone hide
wedding food in a bush...

Well do you want a better view of the hidden food?

Falling in love is a great thing.
It can really make you laugh..

When you have some one to hold on to

Or someone who sends you a lovely message

For those who have no one to hug,
Well... there are plenty of things to hug
before you get your darling.

The love story trick
My tips for getting that special some one

NO 1.
Look at your special interest
at an angle of Love

No 2.
If she is of the same angle, she will return
a perpendicular look in your direction.

No 3.
Then you will know that she has entered the net,

There will be love fireworks

And you can say Eureka or Voila I got her/him
and the next weddo will be ours.

Embu Sceneries: Porine and Maina's wedding

The hot dry wind of 14th June 2008 found us meandering through the red soils of central province. See, this was an absolutely fantastic day for some two lovely people... Maina Macharia and his lovely fiancee Pauline Nyawira.
These two had decided to call it quits to the singles club and had invited us to go and witness their transition to their "double lifestyle". Faithfully, we went to witness the carpenter's expert wqork of joining a Kikuyu and an Embu. For those of you who missed this auspicious occasion, I bring you images from the nether world.....

FIRST SCENES....

Glowing green vegetation growing 'under cover' are some of the sights you might witness when you embrace Embu. But hey don't hate it yet... it simply an indicator of its resilience. I mean, it is so hot but the maize is still holding strong... not a bad show.

I hope Porine and Maina will stand strong like this
even when clouds of life's dangerous dust hits their marriage

Yeah... remember the Nyayo Era?
Streets of Embu town give you that
nostalgic feel of the good old days...

THE WORKSHOP AND ALL...

It was in this locale that Maina's sun of bachelorhood was setting

And alas.. his long lost better half was going to be pinned to his side for life.

Praying and hoping she hadn't eloped with someone else!!!

Of course we had come to give them moral support
as the sweat out any wedding day jitters
and embraced life in twos

Yes... all of us were there... (anybody wants to guess who was in this car?)

Welcome to the fantastic workshop
where the works of joinery were going to be done..

It may look empty now... but wait

In some few minutes the place was overflowing
with humanity eager to be counted as witnesses
of this carpentry work

At exactly this time,
bwana na bi harusi made their
Grand Entry into the church compound

Of course the class... sorry... the church prefect
was quick to alert every one to get in for roll call

But of course the "naughty wedding goers"
were not ready to leave the Mercedes all by it's self

Then at the back door, came the madam's amazing brigade

And clearing the way were these fantastic floral patterned flowers

The boys in their dark suits came riding through too

The young calvary chaperoning the way for them

First these ladies took us into "HIS PRESENCE"
via a highway called P & W

She was the one who did the hammering (Yeah she hammered the word)

And he was the one who took the jack plane and scrapped
all the single hood from our two VIPs

Mama was here to see off her son fall into the hands of another woman
(Is that a sad feeling or a joyous on?)

Hey.. I cant beleive that my little doll barbie girl has charmed another man!
Porine's father is seen here whispering to his wife

But somebody here was bubbling a million bubbles
to notice the hullabaloo in the background

She may be dark, but if you look carefully,
you will notice that she was blushing
like a nandi flame tree as her man approached her

Hey ... WAIT WAIT WAIT A MINUTE...
aren't you supposed to ask whether anyone has anything
that will stop this marriage.

Now we all know that Maina will not be sleeping alone anymore...

But he has indeed left some big shoes to fill in the gentlemen's camp

While some were born to throw, spread and scatter far and abroad...,

Others endevor to gather what is thrown away
whilst wondering how all this 'wastage' takes place
in a world that's already drowning in scarcity

The Grand Coalition Marriage: Timothy and Virginia

Coalition is the new buzz phrase that has hit the Kenyan vocabulary. Many are going to wed or bed for convenience purposes (Read politicians). But on Saturday May 3rd 2008 at the famous NPC Valley Road, we witnessed a real grand coalition between "The West" and "The Central". One lovely young man going by the name of Tim Shitsetswa (famously and rightly so referred to as Mr. Shhh) convinced a bright, beautiful & beaming bride to embrace the west and brace the test of proving she's the best face for him. How she handles that... Well let's just say that she has a lifetime to do it. But knowing who Virginiah Nyambura is, I think she's up to the task. Both, former students of UoN, School of Business, graduated in 2004.

I was unable to attend the negotiations and the lobbying for cabinet posts for this coalition but I was present when the deal was signed and I bring you images, stories and intruiges encountered during the occassion.

THE NEGOTIATION PROCESS
We had some members going through the draft Proposal and others
checking if their names were left out of the delegates' list

When the carpet was rolled out,

The dignitaries entered in style

Na kila mtu alikuwa na wake

Na alimshika

Mwenzake baraba and walked in style

While the matron escorted the wedding observers

And the Wananchi waited eagerly

Then at the doorway

Came in the bride under the heavy Parental Escort

Somewhere in the middle, Mr. Shh told them
"it's ok, I will take her from here..."

And he sure took her down the isle to the altar

First, we sang the 'National Anthem'
( That's Praise and Worship for the conservatives)

Then the Chief Mediator asked whether there was any one
carrying the message displayed on this banner above.
Tension of course mounted (as it does when these announcements are made)

And Tim's mum looked for any protesting opposer

So did Tim's dad look too

V's dad & mum keenly scanned the crowds also.

The Best man craned to see we didn't miss any one at the back.

While the best lady looked up to ensure we didn't
(miss ... eh... any angels opposing the marriage????)
I don't know but since the couple was very beautiful,
I wouldn't have been surprised if a celestial being
got tooo tempted to interrupt!!... well never mind.

The "marriage hopefuls" also anxiously
scanned the crowds for any trouble.

What a relief when none was forthcoming and they were
free to Brand each other with the seal of identity

They then ratified the draft proposal
and appended their signatures to it

Consequently, the Chief Mediator uttered the famous
'Koffi Annan Words'....
"Ladies and Gentlemen, We have a deal..."

Immediately, the throngs of Wananchi broke into a dance

A Grand Celebration for what had just transpired

While they kept the deal in a very safe place

And shook their hands... No ..No ... shooks their
...Lips... in public to signify a new agreement
(Ooops, I missed the shot where the lips got into contact... Sorry)

From there, it was intense lobbying by former Kabeterians as they
scrambled for a close photo with the coalition partners.
I bet they wanted to be considered for plum Cabinet Portifolios...

(Yani, they want when the couple gets kids, some be named after
them!!Hmm.. just how many kids these two will need to have to
satisfy these guys. Kibaki and Raila got 40, the ball is now in your
court Mr. & Mrs. Shh)

But hey, these guys had places to go and they weren't ready
for a cabinet bickering, so the motorcade came for them

However, there was a slight protocal row
as to who sits where in the "pecking order"

But the "Government Spokesman" (Read MC) was quick
to explain the Government's position

Which as you can see was able to sort out sitting's arrangement
and pecking order Question and so the couple
left to go for a bonding session

Leaving Wananchi to be treated to a state banquet

I don't know but looks like those two guys are
asking the lady in white ...
"haiya what do you mean you need a soda too
and you have lot's of food!"

When they came back from "Bonding..."

...Wananchi were at hand to graciously receive them

They were then led to the dias for a light meal

Before the start of 'Weddings' Season 2

WEDDING DRAMA
Weddings have their own brand and fair share of drama.
This being a mix of Kuyos and Lunjes,
hmm, it was not any different.

Check this out...For Kyuk's, they've got this fixation about doing a
test run as to whether 'she' can carry marital obligations
comfortably

They also have to prove that she knows how to
fix mouth watering cuisine with whatever
ingredients and machinery she can access

Kwa Waluhya, ngoma moto moto is they key word

From the old mamas...

... to the cute ladies...

They must ... ♪♪♪ ... shake, shake, shake a leg..♪♪♪

Away from the drama, check out this amazing munchful cake
Before it was ceremoniously demolished

I do not know.... but I got this feeling that this cake
was exceedingly sweet coz both of them

Ate it with their eyes closed!!!!

Before drinking some fruit wine in an amazing style

SIDE SHOWS

When buying wedding gifts, you might do well to research
where one works. They presented her with a Mobil gas cylinder
whereas she works for Total Kenya.
Did it tick off her boss? I don't know... but it was amusing

Some tips on how to deal with the "Press" (Read Me)
Don't threaten them and then hide in the midst of the ladies

Just smile, let them take your photo and you will be OK.

When they grant you an interview and ask questions like...
"Ati so, when do you think you will get married?"
Don't get knocking knees, all mushy, and too shy
(Especially when the ladies r in the background!!)

...But on the other hand, do not be too enthusiastic as to
demonstrate your answer. Especially not with your eyes closed.
... ha ha ha

Choose your friends carefully: like what one
Peter Ndung'u did (guy with a white hankie) .
He choose to seek advice from married men.

...A wise thing coz his potential mate (Christine)
was looking to see who he associates with!!!

Ladies... learn a thing or two from those who have
walked down marriage road before

One is that always be happy &...
Two, uniform intuition is admirable
(don't you like their fabrics?)

Something else to learn, There are some things,
you might consider giving a wide berth!
(E.g. playing hide 'n' seek... )

Because that might really ...REEALLY scare the bride!!!!
(so desist from them)

But by all means try to stand out amongst the crowds
(Remember that Kiwi advert's song?)

Eddy and Nimu's wedding

On Saturday 12th April 2008, I had the privilege of attending

Edward Kiragu and Rosalyn Wairimu's Wedding.

Yani, si this was one and a half wedding of the year. I had the privilege of spending the night with the bridegroom and spending most of his last bachelor embers together. I saw him run errands on his wedding day like trying to cook rice, chop the chicken, put posters and labels on the washrooms and answer a hundred calls. The butterflies in his belly were largely audible and I can almost swear there were locusts too.

I can write about lots of things and the drama and all, e.g. catching some sleepy girls in bed, eaves droping when the couple were discussing their honeymoon plans, parents inlaw producing the wrong girl when the bridegroom's party arrived, eavesdropping on some former campuserians discussing who's next, the faces of joy, agony, disbelief et.. However, they say that a picture says more than 1000 words and since I got some, I will let them tell the story.

HERE IS THE STORY

The lush green meadows of Othaya... the eye-catching, captivating and intoxicating moorlands where the couple designed a shrine to confiscate each other's singlehood for a more complex scenario of mutual duality
.... In English, this is where the wedding took place

First some Background I wondered about his Childhood ...

In his dreams, Eddy has always dreamt about...

Owning a magnificient car...

Holding a job in an executive Office

And impressing his Parents with......

A hard working girl

Kulikuwa na many Choices

But he settled for her

And "cheated" her with these every Valentine...

Thats why we had this....

SCENES BEFORE THE DAY Before she became hitched, She agreed to give me tea but she was called..

I followed her and they gave me a "Let's-smile-and-he-will-go-away" look

Thinking I've left, they went back to business...

Rosalyne: Haiya... ati hii pesa ni ya kunipeleka honeymoon??? Kwani u r taking me Where?
Kiragu: Arboretum!!!

I asked her how she will pose Pastor akisema... "You may now kiss the bride.."

Time check Saturday 2:14 AM.. Kiragu consulting with Chief chef. There are several chicken in the white Tusky's Supermarket paper bag!

Kiragu: Saasa hawa kuku utakatakata ama I can help you?
Chef: My son go sleep or you will loose your head! Kuku niachie

Mlo Tosha will be there

It's not Kiragu only who needed the sleep. He had company

Coz the day that was ahead ...

Was indeed going to be....
A tough one to live through

For very many people

THE MATERIAL DAY Even with all the gaiety around us....

There still were tense Moments: Are you sure she's going to come??

Laughter seemed to calm his nerves

Plus some help from "Jeshi la Mzee"

But when the "Jeshi la mama" came in...

Some were absolutely mersmerized

They looked so fly and cute...

Mpaka Bwana Harusi was distracted. See the way he bit his lips? Am sure he was regretting "How comes I never saw these 'cuties' and 'beauties' before?"

But when the Princess' carpet was rolled out...

And down she came escorted by her Parents;
Kiragu's doubts flew out of the window.

Na bibi Harusi was eagerly awaited by Many...

And the Ref wasted no time and so, she called it: A TIE

A decision that even the lines man and woman agreed with.

Having proved beyond reasonable doubt that the two were guilty as charged: The case of being in love

The Judgement was signed and sealed

And the key was thrown away... very far away

The man couldn't hide his "agony"

When they were 'convicted' to life term sentence of being husband and wife

In the midst of their witnesses

Very many witnesses

Some couldn't beleive it.... "yaani ati ameenda tu hivyo?"

But the members of the 4th estate (Press Photographers) were unpertubed!

But for the love birds... the journey had just began...

And so they preped their shoes

So that they would last on the rough road ahead.

WEDDING DRAMA
No wedding is complete without this kind of drama... (At least 4the Kyuks)

Well, there you have it... the scenes, drama and all. We wish the very best to Mr. Edward Wairimu and Mrs. Rosalyne Kiragu. After a very long day full of joy and laughter, I am grateful to all who supported these guys and hope that by this blog, you wont feel like you missed a lot. Got a wedding u need covered? Village Musings

I proudly declare to the world that I am a typical rural village boy. I grew up in the deepest heartland of Kenya and so it was a big deal that necessitated a clan gathering when time came that for the first time, I was going to visit the City.

Having traversed dusty roads all my life, imagine then the drama it elicited as those who were "widely traveled" (They once were taken to court locked in those dreaded prison vans) tried to explain to me how tarmacked roads look like. I leave out all the various gory descriptions and just give you a sample of the one that came closest to reality. An eager enthusiast told me that to know how tarmacked roads look like, I imagine the classroom blackboards but this time lay down on the road. Tell you what, I indeed imagined but the scenarios I came up with were pictures of cyclists and donkey drivers (Most common means of transport) tumbling and falling over the wooden black boards laid down on the roads. The pictures were horrifying and as such, I wondered why a sane person would consider laying the boards on the road rather than leaving them in the classroom and call that tarmac.

Well, several days later, I was in the City and I got the correct picture of what one Scottish engineer-John Loudon Macadam & his trusted sidekick Thomas Telford invented and today we know as tarmac. (notice the Mac at the end of tar, well these roads were made of a mixture of tar and a lot of other stuff and came to be known as -the tar of Macadam- later shortened to tarmac) aw why am I giving you all this history? Let us just remain with the simple idea of a country boy.

Now when you have such a background and then suddenly you achieve the great feat of visiting the City even if it is to drop your body in the City morgue due to your death, you become an instant Celebrity. In the village, every one knows everyone and news travel faster and wider the modern reach of "thuh internet". As a result, everybody wants a piece of you. Some want just to touch you, others to send you to buy for them coconut porridge, or mitumba, or madodo ya nyanza, or ‘that talking thing’ (TV if you like) and a lot of other stuff, using your money if you don’t mind. What about refund? Well they can always organize something to pay you back like allowing you to watch comedies and wrestling on that TV every time your feet hits the dusty trails of the village at no charges at all. “You should really be grateful for that- your brothers will actually be paying to watch!!” am warned. Better still, some promise to keep a little bit of the porridge so that they will be giving you a cup every time you are around- oh they have no fridges if that’s what you are thinking!! Goodness they don’t even have electricity.

Others make ridiculous requests like, please greet the president for me, or “oh the day you will be passing over here in an aero plane, please look down and say hi to me- I will be at the shamba”, or please go to every house and see if they need a house girl then write a letter to tell me.

I guess I could do all that but the closest I ever has been to the president was when I touched his face!! Oh… that was on the television and I had bumped on the staircase and I fell on the screen. They happened to be featuring him at that very precise moment!! The only other time I have ever met him up close and candid, was when I longingly looked at his face as I gave away the 40/= Coin to the matatu's conductor!

Am yet to get into a plane and IF I do, am not sure it will pass over our home area and IF it does am not sure whether the fella who wants ‘salamu za hewani’ will be in the shamba and IF he will be there, am not sure I will recognize him and IF I do, am not sure I will remember to say Hi and IF I remember, am not sure he will hear me and IF he hears... aww do we have to go on with this conditional IF set-up? On the house girl thing mhh, do you have an idea how many millions of houses are in Nairobi? Well to rub off the guilt, let me simply ask, does anyone need a house help??? Get in touch with me.

OK let's get away from all that. Last year, I went home for my post graduation party attired in my full higher education attire. Honestly, I love the place and the jubilation that came with it. Oh how I regaled in the glory of the 'THOMED' i.e. the learned one… until the advices from the elder statesmen began to trickle in.

First was the counsel on choice of a life partner. “Our son, ensure that your eyes do not wonder far off the outskirts of your locality. We have eye catching, heart warming, breathtaking, daughters of ‘your’ land who can fix you any traditional meal you want in a whiff. In any case, all the wealth you will have to cough up as dowry shouldn’t go to an outsider!” (The dowry…ha… let me put it this way. I am made to understand that by the time I am through; the prospective father in law might actually open a community bank fully licensed by Central bank coz he will be able to exceed all the necessary strict monetary conditions!!!).
“Dear son, a man of your insight and learning is a man of means, this means that you can run several empires at the same time and am sure that many of your father’s friends will only be too willing to provide you with the vehicles that will support such investments.” If you aren’t careful, you might think that you are going to be given capital to start different business empires. But woe unto you the day you discover what kind of an empire you are supposed to build and you give even the slightest hint of backing out.

In short what these statesmen were telling me is that having carefully weighed me on the wealth and status scales, they had come to a unanimous conclusion that I could effectively and efficiently run several family units and that the congregation of the present elders would be willing to part with their daughters who would be the ‘vehicles’ for the said Venture. All I would do is to cough ‘just some few thousands’ as an appreciation fee to the parents for their many troubles in bearing, raising and preserving specifically for me, these beaus.

Out of the blues, I also came to learn of other pre-natal agreements that were signed many months before I even uttered a single cry or even saw the living daylights. These agreements, which were done orally, stated that I was obligated to give so and so and so and so grandchildren as soon as I became- what the Luos would call a man of nyadhi- i.e. a man of means. These ‘agreements’ were considered legal and abiding and I would be in serious jeopardy if I dared ignore them. In other words, before I was born there had been hush-hush men and women talks that if I turned out to be a boy, several people offered to give their daughters to me in marriage if I turned out to be a good man-which they now thought I had become. The so said daughters were probably also not born!!! You talk of prospective investors in Stock Exchange but rethink again. These elders took prospective investing to the ‘extreemest’ sense of the word.

But there’s one piece of advice I was given and which I will not forget. I was told that relatives, neighbors and friends would visit me in the office looking for help. In the eventuality of such an occurrence, I was told that I should never take my coat, throw it over my shoulder and walk out of the office leaving the hapless person looking mesmerized by the exemplary electronic gadgetry in the office. I have no desire of ever doing such a thing and that’s why every time I have a coat, I never take it off just incase I get a visit that necessitates me to take off from the office- without having to fling the coat over my shoulder.

The wet wait

Picture this:
Its dark and the skies are as dark as darkness can be. The heralds of a gruesome storm can be heard from miles away; I call it 'the war cries of thunder'.
I look around where I am and then mentally picture where am supposed to be and my heart dies within. A great chasm lies between the road and home.
I consider several options that could take me home. Well, I can take a taxi but my pocket cash value is blow the C-level. Alternatively, I could the dark shortcut path that leads home. For a moment, that looks like a viable option but I shilly-shally for several reasons.
First, the pregnant clouds are a deterrent even to the stoutest hearted amongst us. You don’t want the clouds to deliver while you are on a lonely no man's land.
Second, following last nights downpour, the footpath is teeming with litters of dirty stinking stagnant water. Thus even if I could beat the skies with my speed, I will get home stinking like I just have had a leisure swim in the sewer.
Thirdly, even if I can figure out where the stones and thus escape unscathed by the reeking pools below me, the path is prone to petty muggers and some heavy weight big time robbers too. Tonight's conditions are just ideal for them to lay ambush to lonely miserable travelers. I have not been feeling suicidal of late and so taking the lonely path is categorically out of question.
I thus get to my last resort; pleading with the Safaricom lady not to tell me to revitalize my credit before I call my cousin. I manage to call her and explain my predicament. She-my cousin- tells me she is on the way and before I can get further instructions, the beep, beep, beep, beeeeeeeeeep Silence my credit air time is over.
So here I am waiting to be picked from the road. To begin with, its dark so I can’t see the car from afar, secondly, it has started to drizzle so am freezing. In addition, there are three possible directions she could be coming and the only way to be sure is to stay somewhere in the open exposed to the wet masses of heaven. I never intended to pose to the fervent press photographers in the sky- read lightning- but I have no choice. I could see a warm cozy restaurant in the opposite street, I could smell roast beef in a nearby butchery and all these provided enough temptations to get from the road and wait elsewhere. But if I did that, I could easily miss the one who was picking me. To make matters worse, there were three possible vehicles she could be in so I had to be extra observant. I also didn’t know where she was and so I had no waiting time frame. She might just be in the next vehicle.
As I endured the wait in the rain, I remembered what Jesus said:
John 14:1 I have gone to make a place and when it's ready, I will come back for you... (Paraphrased)The only thing we know for sure is that Jesus is coming back. As we wait for his return, let’s not get drawn to the attractive sideshows that the world offers. He could be here in the next minute and we are out there binging, enjoying useless worldly passions and we are met totally unwary, totally unaware, totally clueless, totally unprepared!!! Endure the wait for Christ is just around the bend.
